Wildlife photography is, above all, a matter of waiting. You learn to make yourself forgotten, to read the light and the wind, to let the encounter come to you rather than force it. It may be a silhouette crossing an Alpine ridge in the cold of dawn, a herd drifting slowly towards a waterhole in Etosha, or a lemur studying you from the canopy of a Malagasy forest.
For those moments, the 100–500mm never leaves my side: it lets me keep my distance, respect the animal’s space, and still come close to a gaze, a gesture, a fragment of wild life. Each encounter is brief, unpredictable, and never quite repeats itself.
